Re: Just finished it!! :D
Date: 2012-06-23 09:42 pm (UTC)I guess Asami was just being portrayed as unreasonable and Mako is totally right. The hell, Bryke?! Oh the adult triangle was terrible!
Yeah it's a damned if you do damned if you don't. I just hope Korra's failing doesn't affect future shows with female leads.
EXACTLY! It was just there so Mako can save Korra and look cool! There have been so many rules of A:tla verse that have been broken just so something can look cool. Frustration!
She's fully in control of the Avatar state too. I don't buy that she's super spiritual too. It's was just a major cop out worse than the Lion Turtle.
Re: Just finished it!! :D
Date: 2012-06-23 11:18 pm (UTC)Yeah, I was waiting and waiting and waiting for Korra and Asami to have a conversation re: Asami sending Mako to sit in the backseat of the car and all the coldness between them, or to come clean to her about the kiss, or something, but they pretty much never talk, which... it's Team Avatar, and half the team doesn't talk to each other. @__@
The sad part is I don't feel like Korra is failing. The general sentiment I've seen today is a lot of "OMG YAY THE FINALE WAS AWESOME" with a sprinkling of "Um, wtf Bryke?" and then all the usual ship war crap that I can't be bothered reading anymore. I feel like this is all some crackpot plot by Bryke to mess with the folks who used to ship Zutara in the first show, because most of that faction seemed to jump onboard the Makorra ship right away. They've always pressed the point that Zutara would've been terrible if it had happened, and now they can point to its "parallel" in Makorra and how people hate it and go, "See? We told you it would suck." XD; (She says, as someone who casually shipped Zutara even though she's all right with the canon couples, and who thought she was going to LIKE Makorra.)
Well, they got me there I guess; it DID look cool. :/ But yeah, with lightning-bending and metalbending being so common among the populace in Korra's time, they're kind of not special anymore and it's kind of a bummer, at least to me. Those were like THE mark of mastery of one's element, and it's like, okay, so now what's the new bar to aim for?
Oh good, I wasn't the only one having flashbacks to Deus ex Lion Turtle. *facepalm* I can buy her being down in the dumps and her past lives coming to give her sage advice, but the magic "okay here's your bending that you've done nothing to get back" thing was total crap. And if Katara had been there, she probably would've smacked Aang upside the head for giving her such an easy out. XD At least Katara still rocks. I was happy she couldn't reverse the problem. Too bad the problem got reversed anyway not five minutes later.
RAAAAARGH! *yanks hair out*
Re: Just finished it!! :D
Date: 2012-06-24 01:06 am (UTC)and have little Mako/Bolin cause I liked the idea the Amon could be their father, okay?I haven't thought about this at alllll.
For a Team they do hardly talk. It's just a team because the writers told us it was, same with Makorra, and everything.
All I've seen today has been RAGBLARGLBRYKEWHY??!! So, idk. I don't think that Bryke would go through the trouble of naming Mako after Iroh's VA as just some ass attempt at trolling, but who knows? I thought I was going to like it too, but they turned Mako into the biggest jerk.
None, unless they break the rules more for something cool. At least in A:tla it felt like there was limits on what people could do and certain things were easier for their temperament?
The Lion Turtle didn't bug me so much because Aang had learn and changed a whole lot on his journey. What did Korra do? Nothing! She didn't really grow. She had moments where it looked like she did but it would be reversed later. She gets a fully mastered Avatar state because lolplot!
Re: Just finished it!! :D
Date: 2012-06-24 01:38 am (UTC)Yeah, you're right on about all the telling instead of showing crap.
I feel like they're trying to make Mako a jerk because in season 1 of ATLA, Zuko was a jerk, and then he got progressively better as the series went on. But then I have no idea how much, if anything, they changed when they found out they were getting a second season. If they did all this on the assumption that they only had one season to work with, that's even worse.
I suppose in a weird way, that in and of itself is kind of an Equalist thing... EVERYONE becomes the ultimate master of their element. @__@ Still think it's lame and boring.
See, I was always kind of in the cranky camp about Aang and the Lion Turtle. We actually got to SEE HIS FRIGGIN' BENDING TRAINING, which was good. And I will grant that instead of running away and hiding from being the Avatar like he did pre-series, he faced off against Ozai, which was good character progress. But he only did so after he got assured that he could do it without killing him. He went from person to person and past life to past life, and if they gave him an answer he didn't want to hear, he dismissed them and got a second/third/fourth/etc. opinion, until someone told him what he wanted to hear. Don't get me wrong - I feel like taking Ozai's bending WAS the best solution; I don't really advocate killing at all. But it would have been nice to have more BUILD UP to it instead of it just showing up out of nowhere in the very last episode. And then there was the whole chakras thing, where he was supposed to let go of his love for Katara for the sake of his duty as the Avatar and didn't do it and everything managed to turn out hunky dory anyway. I'm glad he found love but it's just kind of one of those things where it's like, why bring that up if you're not going to make it actually AFFECT something? (Correct me if I'm wrong here; I'm a little hazy on some of the ATLA details cuz it's been so long.)
Re: Just finished it!! :D
Date: 2012-06-24 02:01 am (UTC)Seriously. Hate that kind of writing. HATE IT! Bryke had problems with the episodes they wrote on A:tla but holy cow this was bad!
Yes, exactly. Boring.
See if they had introduced Aang's issue with killing like at the beginning of Book 3 (or heck they could have started Book 1 or 2 and got the ball rolling then), and had the whole hiding in the Fire Nation him mulling over his choices; it would have been better. But ia ia! It was just brought up and there and frustrating! Plus getting his chakra hit during the battle and unlocking the Avatar state made me roll my eyes, because it just so happened but it was still so freaking awesome.
Yeah the part where they are fighting Azula and he goes and unlocks his chakra just made the whole speel the Guru said about doing it NOW kind of pointless.
