LJ is being a butt so I guess I'm replying over here, derp. That Loki!popcorn gif is friggin' amazing. *ganks*

We had a power outage last night and it screwed up my DVR, so I only got to watch it while it was airing and only part of it recorded so I can't rewatch it right now, but my initial reaction is just kind of "ALL OVER THE PLACE". They crammed a LOT of both awesome and unawesome stuff into these two episodes that would've been better served as, again, spread out over a longer span of time. Re: what you said over on LJ about Bryke thinking the pacing of this is good... ugh. I miss you, 20-episode seasons. T__T

Some of it, I managed to call. Some of it, not so much. I really have no idea what season 2 is going to be about now, because they pretty much wrapped up everything?

I don't want to spoil stuff, but I do have to say that Mako does something partway through the episode that made me go, "HELL YEAH!" so that's progress I guess.

Once you've seen it and I've had a little more time to process it (and trawl tumblr for stuff people noticed that I missed the first time around), I'll have more to say. XD;

Yeah... on the one hand a lot of what happened was cool. On the other, it really was kind of disappointing. Loved everything with Amon and Tarrlok. Called Amon being a bender and that his backstory was a load of BS (although I was surprised the scar was fake. It's perfectly reasonable to assume he's gotten into scrapes with some pretty nasty folks before.)

Relationship crap made me really annoyed even though I knew they wouldn't give us a break from it.

Seriously loved everything about the sequence where Korra and Mako raid the Equalist rally, though. I shouted "SHIT! NO!" at the screen when Amon revealed his captives (which I won't say who they were in case you don't know yet) and then the resulting fight sequence was great. I feel like I'm supposed to recognize who the Lieutenant was when he took his mask off but I totally don't. But Mako tricks Amon at one point and that's the "HELL YEAH" moment I had. Because it was pretty badass.

I was totally all for there being a way for them all to get their bending back, and I suspected Aang would be involved, but I was just REALLY hoping that would be the STORY ARC in book 2, not just a quick fix at the end of book 1. Total let-down.

idk About the whole saving thing. It's kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't thing, because if she constantly saves herself, the whole friendship/teamwork message goes down the crapper, and also people cry "Mary Sue". She did just save herself in the previous episode (evading electrocution in the box and then making it to safety where Naga was able to pick her up), and Aang had to be saved plenty of times in the original (got captured and the Blue Spirit saved him, season 2 finale, etc.).

Yeah... just another thing that got wrecked thanks to the pacing. If we'd seen bits and pieces of his and Tarrlok's story over the course of several episodes, and Amon had gotten his own flashback about where he was between leaving the Northern Water Tribe and becoming the leader of the Equalists, it would've been great. Alas...

Asami keeps trying to put him in his place (heat your own tea; don't blame your brother for what you did; etc.) but other than that, nada. Speaking of that scene, I seriously wanted Pema to stick around and play mediator between them instead of being like, "Whoops, guess I'll leave you two alone now." Then again, this is the woman who's jealous of her husband's childhood sweetheart and hands off her high-maintenance kid on her as a type of "revenge"... the bullshit romance crap with the adults pisses me off even more than the stuff with the kids. Teenage relationship drama, I at least expect to be immature and stupid. But the adults should be beyond that at this point. Fuckin' A.

I'm not saying I would see her as a Sue if she managed to save herself more often, just that that's the kind of flack I'm used to seeing in fandom when it comes to female characters. They're either a Sue or a damsel-in-distress, and there's no middle ground. Endlessly frustrating.

Mako breaking out of bloodbending was pretty unbelievable, although part of me wants to try to give Bryke the benefit of the doubt (because no matter what the case is with LoK, ATLA was still amazing) and think that since lightning-bending is to firebenders what bloodbending is to waterbenders, the mastery of either puts them somewhat on par with each other. The problem there being that Mako is not a master firebender. The fact that he can bend lightning at all confuses the hell out of me. I think my brain is stuck on the fact that in ATLA, each of the gAang became a master of their element, and I was hoping to see the same kind of growth from Korra's team. Not so. MORE DISAPPOINTMENT FOR ME~!

And then Amon and Tarrlok blow up. WTF?!?! And I wanted to see Korra hit the Avatar state but not like that. BLARGH. MY HEART IS BROKEN, BRYKE. T____T

Hnngh.

Yeah, I was waiting and waiting and waiting for Korra and Asami to have a conversation re: Asami sending Mako to sit in the backseat of the car and all the coldness between them, or to come clean to her about the kiss, or something, but they pretty much never talk, which... it's Team Avatar, and half the team doesn't talk to each other. @__@

The sad part is I don't feel like Korra is failing. The general sentiment I've seen today is a lot of "OMG YAY THE FINALE WAS AWESOME" with a sprinkling of "Um, wtf Bryke?" and then all the usual ship war crap that I can't be bothered reading anymore. I feel like this is all some crackpot plot by Bryke to mess with the folks who used to ship Zutara in the first show, because most of that faction seemed to jump onboard the Makorra ship right away. They've always pressed the point that Zutara would've been terrible if it had happened, and now they can point to its "parallel" in Makorra and how people hate it and go, "See? We told you it would suck." XD; (She says, as someone who casually shipped Zutara even though she's all right with the canon couples, and who thought she was going to LIKE Makorra.)

Well, they got me there I guess; it DID look cool. :/ But yeah, with lightning-bending and metalbending being so common among the populace in Korra's time, they're kind of not special anymore and it's kind of a bummer, at least to me. Those were like THE mark of mastery of one's element, and it's like, okay, so now what's the new bar to aim for?

Oh good, I wasn't the only one having flashbacks to Deus ex Lion Turtle. *facepalm* I can buy her being down in the dumps and her past lives coming to give her sage advice, but the magic "okay here's your bending that you've done nothing to get back" thing was total crap. And if Katara had been there, she probably would've smacked Aang upside the head for giving her such an easy out. XD At least Katara still rocks. I was happy she couldn't reverse the problem. Too bad the problem got reversed anyway not five minutes later.

RAAAAARGH! *yanks hair out*

I'd buy that. \o/

Yeah, you're right on about all the telling instead of showing crap.

I feel like they're trying to make Mako a jerk because in season 1 of ATLA, Zuko was a jerk, and then he got progressively better as the series went on. But then I have no idea how much, if anything, they changed when they found out they were getting a second season. If they did all this on the assumption that they only had one season to work with, that's even worse.

I suppose in a weird way, that in and of itself is kind of an Equalist thing... EVERYONE becomes the ultimate master of their element. @__@ Still think it's lame and boring.

See, I was always kind of in the cranky camp about Aang and the Lion Turtle. We actually got to SEE HIS FRIGGIN' BENDING TRAINING, which was good. And I will grant that instead of running away and hiding from being the Avatar like he did pre-series, he faced off against Ozai, which was good character progress. But he only did so after he got assured that he could do it without killing him. He went from person to person and past life to past life, and if they gave him an answer he didn't want to hear, he dismissed them and got a second/third/fourth/etc. opinion, until someone told him what he wanted to hear. Don't get me wrong - I feel like taking Ozai's bending WAS the best solution; I don't really advocate killing at all. But it would have been nice to have more BUILD UP to it instead of it just showing up out of nowhere in the very last episode. And then there was the whole chakras thing, where he was supposed to let go of his love for Katara for the sake of his duty as the Avatar and didn't do it and everything managed to turn out hunky dory anyway. I'm glad he found love but it's just kind of one of those things where it's like, why bring that up if you're not going to make it actually AFFECT something? (Correct me if I'm wrong here; I'm a little hazy on some of the ATLA details cuz it's been so long.)

I wish I knew. I've been trawling the three big news sites, the wiki, and the tag on tumblr, but haven't heard a thing. I'm assuming they're out for the summer, at this point. I was hoping it'd just be for the month of June, but there's only a week left to June so... x___x

Agreeing with you here quite a lot. A lot of awesome and a lot of not-awesome all together. Overall I liked it, though.

Was the awesome Mako-part the lightning-bending? Because that's really the only cool thing Mako ever does, but it is VERY cool.

Speaking of lightning-bending as an extension of Firebending, I'd really like to see Bolin learn Metalbending. Maybe Lin can teach him. :D AND WE NEED MORE BOLIN ANYWAY, he just got the short end of the stick in pretty much every way... D:

I keep alternating between feeling like I liked it overall and then getting cranky about the whole season in general and all the ways in which it could have been better if they'd just dropped the crappy teen romance nonsense. XD;

Yes, the lightning-bending was what I was referring to there. :) Amon was (is? A master waterbender could have survived an explosion in the middle of the ocean, right? Right? x__x) an awesome villain but it was nice to see him slip up just that once.

I would LOVE to see Lin teach Bolin metalbending! I didn't realize quite how much I would love that until you said it. He can bend a little suit of armor for Pabu and they can go charging into battle together... *nerd*
